Proud to work with such an amazing charity!
Barnardo’s Short Breaks Milton Keynes is a local partnership between Barnardo’s and Milton Keynes council, providing fun activity days for children with varying needs and often much needed respite for their carers and parents. They needed a site to easily and effectively inform parents about upcoming events, with the possibility to book tickets for events with limited places. Administration of the site needed to be simple and straightforward and the site had to adhere to guidelines set out by both Barnardo’s and Milton Keynes council.
During our initial discussion with the team manager at Barnardo’s Milton Keynes, it became apparent pretty quickly that the upcoming events solution was going to be a main focus of the site.
We discussed the motivations of their visitors, details of their events, current branding restrictions and guidelines, as well as what they felt they needed most from the site.
We then went to work researching and trialling various solutions, for the interactive events aspect of the site. Once we’d found a suitable solution, with plenty of room for expansion, we drew up a proposal, sent it off to Barnardo’s and were given the green light to begin work.
Usually, for us, a project begins with wire-framing the site, sketching layouts and considering its architecture, however with this project we worked on the events solution in tandem, as it was an integral part of the site. Over the course of the project we trialled multiple formats for the events data to be displayed in, from month view calendars to single day agendas. After careful deliberation we decided on a rolling two-month long agenda list of events. At the same time, we experimented with various themes throughout the site. Eventually agreeing on the child friendly thematic seen on the final product. During the entire process we ensured our designs adhered to Barnardo’s already well-established brand guidelines, as well as those of Milton Keynes council.
